About

Luxury Trastevere

Housed in a well-preserved 16th-century building right on the corner of Piazza di Santa Maria in Trastevere, this 4-star property puts you in the middle of one of Rome's most atmospheric quarters. The reviews consistently praise the location for its authenticity – winding lanes, basilica views and a lively evening scene of restaurants and cafés just outside the door. The building has been renovated with taste, keeping a sense of the old structure while offering modern comforts. Rooms are named after artists, and some suites come with terraces or balconies overlooking the square.

The property is small and personal – a series of rooms and suites spread over a floor of the old house, with a shared kitchen for guest use. While the location is the headline, the details matter too: good air conditioning (even in some bathrooms), comfortable beds, and safety amenities like in-room safes. Breakfast is continental only – croissants, biscuits, jam, honey, coffee and juice – and you'll find plenty of little food stores and cafés in the neighbourhood for anything else. The main attractions of Rome are within a 15-minute walk, and Ciampino airport is about 20 km away with transfer services available.

In brief

What works, what to weigh

+

Strengths

4 reasons to book
  • Unbeatable Trastevere location — On the corner of Piazza di Santa Maria, steps from the basilica and the neighbourhood's famous lanes, restaurants and cafés. Most main attractions are a 15-minute walk away.
  • Characterful 16th-century building — A well-preserved old house renovated with taste, giving the stay a sense of being in a historic Roman home rather than a generic hotel.
  • Rooms with character and some with terraces — Suites like Michelangelo and the two-bedroom option come with terraces or balconies, often overlooking the square or the charming streets below.
  • Comfortable beds and quality amenities — Guests repeatedly note exceptionally comfortable beds, plus nice touches like bathrobes, fluffy towels, safe boxes and toiletry sets.

Worth weighing

5 to weigh
  • Room sizes vary — Some boutique rooms are small and can feel dark, with lighting that could be better. Suites are more spacious – check the size you book.
  • Piazza noise at night — The lively square brings evening noise, though double-glazed windows do a good job of muffling it.
  • Lighting and mirrors could improve — A guest mentions the bathroom had no natural light and no full-length mirror in the bedroom, which made getting ready a bit awkward.
  • No pets allowed — If you're travelling with a pet, this property won't be able to host you.
  • Continental breakfast only — Breakfast is a simple continental spread – croissants, biscuits, jam, honey, coffee and juice – without hot cooked options.

“Best location! Beautiful balcony view, spacious suite with a delicious atmosphere.”

“Fantastic location in the authentic medieval part of Trastevere, just off Piazza Santa Maria with its basilica and lovely winding lanes – a fabulous atmosphere for eating, drinking and relaxing. Felt like we had come home. The boutique room itself was small and slightly dark, and lighting could have been better, but it was simple yet luxurious with everything we needed. The bathroom was good even without natural light, though not great for make-up – I had to stand by the window to see properly. Sky TV was a plus for my husband during quiet moments. Next time I'd try the larger, brighter upstairs suite with the balcony. The piazza was noisy at night, but the double-glazed windows were excellent at keeping out the excess. Good air conditioning, also in the bathroom. The shower was a fixed overhead – fine but not ideal for ladies – though it looked good. A full-length mirror in the bedroom would have been useful. The king bed was a bit firm for me, but comfortable enough once used to it.”

“We had a suite with an exceptionally comfortable bed, a safe box, a mini-bar and a sofa bed.”
